Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Searching within the internet is the most important way a user discovers a website. 95% of all traffic online originates from seeking answers in a search engine.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the methodology used to optimize your website so it ranks well within search engines. The use and practice of SEO helps to increase traffic to your website. The idea behind SEO is to get top placement in the results of search engines based on relevant search words. Keyword Density, Page Titles, Link Popularity and Metatags all play a major part in where your webpage appears in a search engine.

Keywords are the most important SEO item for every search engine. The main point to remember when using keywords to your website is choosing the RIGHT keywords to achieve the highest optimization. When you begin to start optimization, the first thing to consider is what keywords describe the content of your site best and at the same time, bring in the most revenue to your company. After you have decided upon the keywords that best describe your site, the next step is to make your website keyword-rich and to obtain high keyword density. Keyword density is a common measure of how relevant a page is to your search words. Another way to use keywords to your advantage is to use these words within the development of your website. For example, if your website contains information on designer purses, use the keywords 'designer' and 'purse' in domain names, file names, page titles, headings and even the name of pictures used within your website. SEO relies heavily on the designer to provide meaningful descriptions on all images, animations, movies and URLs.

The page title of your website is the main tool that attracts new visitors from search listings and helps your existing users to locate specific pages. The page title of your website is contained within the HTML code <title> tag. This particular HTML tag is almost always used as the clickable heading for listings on search engine result pages.  Page titles are also used as the default entry in the Favorites when users Bookmark a site. For other pages other than the homepage of your website, carry words that describe the specifics of what users will find on that page. The page title is also used as the window title in the browser. Therefore, it is also used as the label for that window in the taskbar menu within Windows. If all your page titles use the same words, or worse examples such as 'Welcome Page', 'Home' etc. you have severely reduced usability of your website and search ability.

The use of Links also plays a viable role in SEO. The 'WEB' is basically a collection of 'Links' to other web sites and web pages. In other words, there are two types of links that are important for SEO – inbound and outbound links. Outbound links are links that start from your site and lead into another one, while inbound links, also called backlinks come from an external site to yours. Backlinks measure the popularity of your site among the web. Backlinks from reputable places boost search engine ranking.

Meta tags give a description of your web site, thus pointing search engines to the themes and topics your web site is relevant to. Meta tags can also be used to include the keywords that are relevant for the information on your web pages.

Once all of the above have been thoroughly planned out, the last and final step for optimization is Content, Content and more Content! Text is one of the driving forces to higher rankings in SEO. The more frequently a site is updated, the more probability the site will be revisited by the search engines sooner.

With all of the above ingredients, your website will become a recipe for SEO success! When it comes to cooking up some SEO, Sato Marketing is there.
